Tires for my 2wd

I'm torn between a bunch of tires for my 3/4 ton 2wd. I need something that will work good in snow, has an e load range and maybe something a little bigger to help with highway rpm since I have a th400 and 4.10 gears. I was thinking of the trxxus mt 235/85/16 (stock size) or bfg mt's. What are some other tires you'd suggest?

Typical M/T tread designs float on top of snow, not providing adequate traction. The large, wide tread blocks usually have no siping and don't provide much grip on wet pavement let alone snow covered roads. You won't notice this so much with a 4wd but you put those Truxxus M/Ts on your 2wd and you will see what I mean. You would be best to stick with an A/T. Most A/Ts have a tread design with smaller more flexible tread blocks which is what you want for the snow. You want a thin tire to concentrate the weight of the vehicle into the snow also. Staying with the stock size should suffice. Working with Volvos for the past 9 years I have learned alot about snow tires and snow driving.
Kinda pricey, but I put Bridgestone Deuler A/T Revo's on my 2500HD and they have probably been the best tire I have ever bought. Even though I upsized to a 285/75/16 they are WAY better in the snow than the OE Deulers in 245/75/16 that came on it new. If my truck was only 2wd I wouldn't have upsized, just stayed with the stock size for better snow traction.
4wheel and off road did a good article on tires for snow wheeling last year. Had alot of good info. Even though your truck is only 2wd alot of that info should apply to what you're looking for. I'll see if I can find it...

Take a look at the Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ. I here great things about them. A mud terrain doesn't seem necessary on a 2wd.
Plenty of siping and a better tread design than BFG A/Ts.

Yep right on. My buddy had a 72 K5 with 33 mud tires think they were 12.5 wide. Thing sucked in the snow. So he slapped on a set that where 9.5 or 10.5 wide i don't remember and it was undstopable. The wide tires just float on snow. I would also collect something for weight in the back to help on those steep hills.

Haven't gotten tires yet, been sucking it up because I'm too poor still. Here's what I've been saving for, I have about $600 to spend. I have a second set of wheels I might mount these on because I'm not sure how long I'll be keeping this truck and I can always use new tires on another 8 lug truck if/when I get one. I will be going 4x4 next time, I'm so sick of 2wd already.

To be honest with ya, I had BFG all terrains load range E on my '05. Great tires when they were brand new, sucked after about 6 months with EXTREMELY normal driving for me (no big stinky burnouts, easy stoplight takeoffs- not my style but had to keep the tires on the truck)
BFG changed there manuf. facilities and the new compound sucks -bad, real bad.
Long story short, I needed tires bad before this plow season started, and the bfgs had less traction than the slicks on your Monte, so I did a little research and came up with these
They are the Dunlop Mud Rover MaxxTraction radials. They are the shit. Last storm I plowed 99.9% in 2wd (4-5" wet snow) Drove around in the slop in 2wd and they are the nuts. I paid 156 buckaroos each for the 265/75r16 LR E's and they rock
just my $.02

Those look nice. I'd have to go up one size since they don't make 235/85's, so I'd be getting 265/75's but I don't think it will make much difference as far as flotation goes.

I broke down and bought a set of 33x12.5-16.5 BFG mud terrains already mounted on steel American Racing wheels. Got all four for $375 and had them mounted just before it started raining and got dark. I need to do some minor trimming now before I can drive so I'm charging the battery on my 18v cordless Dewalt saw.
My truck looks like a truck now.
It was snowing, hailing and raining this morning so I took a shot from my kitchen.
